Historic translation for a new/old perspective. The Douay-Rheims Catholic Bible was initially undertaken in 1568 at the English College at Douai, France where many Englishmen had fled rather than be forced to convert to the newly-formed Church of England. It was finally completed in Reims in 1582. That is why it was first known as the "Rheims Testament". Yes, this Bible predates the King James Version. In 1752 it was revised by Bishop Challoner and became what we know today as the Douay-Rheims Bible.
